內積是向量空間（參見vectorspace與Hilbertspace）中一種雙元運算(binaryoperation)就函數f與g而言，其內積可以定義為在一共同的定義域內之積分式中與g互為共軛就有限維向量x＝(x1x2…xn)與y＝(y1y2…yn)而言，其內積可定義為：設x，y為任意向量，α為任意純量，內積的定義必須滿足下列性質：
