複合材料本身若以微觀觀點而言，實為非均質材料，但若以巨觀觀點而言，可將其理想化為等效之均勻材料；
一般而言，等效均勻性之假設對複合層疊板之勁度影響較微但對強度及破壞機構(failuremechanism)而言，此一假設與實際現象誤差影響較大。
等效均勻性與有效均勻性(effectivehomogeneity)有相同之意義。
